Pragulic: Through Homeless Eyes

Pragulic is a Prague-based social enterprise that opens the city to visitors from a radically different perspective: through the eyes of people experiencing or having experienced homelessness. Since 2012, it has been training and employing homeless guides to lead tours, offering unconventional itineraries that go beyond tourist clichés. These guided walks reveal hidden corners of Prague, untold histories, and powerful life stories, making every tour both a cultural and human encounter.

In addition to classic walking tours—available for individuals or groups—Pragulic develops immersive and educational experiences. The 24-Hour Experience invites participants to step into the reality of life on the streets; team-building programs translate resilience and survival skills into lessons for professional contexts; and the Prague Homeless Challenge engages students in hands-on activities around social awareness, waste recycling, and community action.

By combining urban exploration with social engagement, Pragulic offers more than a tour: it creates transformative experiences that challenge stereotypes, support vulnerable people, and contribute to sustainable, community-oriented tourism.

Why on TravaPowa:  Pragulic aligns with TravaPowa’s vision of travel as a force for inclusion, awareness, and sustainability. It shows that tourism can be a platform for social change when it puts marginalized voices at the center.

  • By giving homeless people the opportunity to work as guides, Pragulic promotes dignity, employment, and empowerment, contributing to SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
  • Its activities directly confront social stigma, encouraging empathy and dialogue between locals, visitors, and marginalized communities — a crucial step toward more inclusive societies.
  • Educational programs such as the Homeless Challenge raise awareness about sustainability and waste management, connecting social issues with environmental responsibility (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production).
  • As a self-sustaining social enterprise, Pragulic demonstrates how responsible tourism can generate long-term impact by reinvesting in people and communities.

It’s a grassroots initiative that helps participants redefine how they experience a city, teaching them to see both its places and its people with new eyes.
