Migrantour: Intercultural Urban Tours
Migrantour is a network of intercultural urban walks led by citizens of migrant origin across dozens of European cities. These guided experiences invite locals and visitors to discover their city through new eyes—those of people who bring with them histories, traditions, and personal migration journeys. Unlike standard tourism, Migrantour offers zero-kilometer travel—right in the heart of your own or a neighboring city—connecting participants with diverse cultures embedded in everyday neighborhoods.
The walks are co-designed and led by “intercultural companions,” trained community members who are not traditional tour guides but educators, cultural mediators, and storytellers. Together, they help bridge cultural divides by guiding small groups through markets, places of worship, community spaces, and immigrant-run businesses. These walks are organized by grassroots nonprofits that join the wider Migrantour network and follow a common training program coordinated by ACRA and Viaggi Solidali.
Now active in more than 20 cities including Lisbon, Milan, Marseille, Barcelona, Utrecht, and Naples, Migrantour turns cities into spaces of dialogue and discovery—where migration is recognized not as a challenge, but as a living, enriching part of urban heritage.

Why on TravaPowa: Migrantour is a powerful example of social and solidarity tourism. It promotes slow, place-based travel that values people over landmarks and human stories over monuments. By involving migrants not only as subjects but as active creators of experience, it rewrites the rules of tourism from extractive to collaborative.
Its impact is deeply rooted in intercultural education, community empowerment, and inclusive storytelling. The walks foster empathy, dismantle prejudice, and offer dignified, paid opportunities to migrant residents to share their knowledge and voice. They allow travelers and locals alike to grasp the evolving identity of European cities through real encounters.
Aligned with multiple SDGs—including Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8)—Migrantour helps shape a future in which tourism becomes a force for social cohesion, not division.
Whether you're a traveler curious about cultural diversity or a city dweller eager to see your own neighborhood differently, Migrantour is an invitation to walk, learn, and transform.
