Albergo Etico: Diversity, Inclusion, Empowerment

Albergo Etico is more than just a hotel network—it’s a pioneering social enterprise redefining hospitality through inclusion, talent development, and autonomy. Founded in Asti, Italy, in 2006, Albergo Etico offers medium-to-high quality accommodation while integrating people with intellectual disabilities—including individuals with Down syndrome and autism—into every aspect of hotel operations.
Its flagship program, the Accademia dell'Indipendenza, offers a three-year journey blending training, work experience, and personal development. Through the innovative Download Method—an approach based on simplifying and transferring professional skills into everyday life—participants progressively acquire autonomy both in their jobs and in their private lives. They live independently within the hotel, learning not only hospitality skills but also how to manage daily life tasks, making independence a tangible and sustainable goal.
Beyond hotel activities, Albergo Etico nurtures a broader ecosystem:
Super Mamme: a national network supporting parents—especially mothers—in creating new inclusive hospitality initiatives across different territories.
Agricoltura Sociale: gardening activities within hotel spaces and dedicated external gardens, where participants learn to care for plants and herbs, strengthening responsibility, connection to nature, and teamwork skills.
Today, Albergo Etico has expanded internationally, with locations in Argentina, Australia, Albania, and upcoming openings in the United States and Norway.
Each stay at an Albergo Etico hotel supports a transformative model of tourism, where professional excellence and social inclusion go hand-in-hand to create lasting impact.

Why on TravaPowa: Tourism can—and must—play a key role in achieving social inclusion and sustainable development. Hotel Albergo Etico shows how hospitality businesses can move beyond charity and become real drivers of change. By integrating people with intellectual disabilities into the heart of its operations, Albergo Etico actively contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Each stay directly supports initiatives like the Accademia dell'Indipendenza, a three-year program that empowers participants with the skills and confidence needed for an independent life. Beyond accommodation, guests are part of a transformative ecosystem where hotels foster personal growth, create new opportunities, and strengthen social fabric.

Choosing Albergo Etico means promoting a tourism model that enhances human potential and local communities—making every journey not only a personal discovery, but a tangible contribution to a more inclusive world.
