Description

Erasmus+: changing lives, opening minds

Erasmus+ is the European Union's flagship program for education, training, youth, and sport. While it began as a student exchange program, it has expanded to offer various opportunities for different groups and tailored on different interests:

  • Higher Education Mobility: This program allows students to study at a partner institution abroad, gaining academic credits that are recognized by their home institution. It's an opportunity to experience different educational systems and teaching methods, and to build an international network of contacts.
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET): VET learners and staff can participate in training programs abroad, which enhance their professional skills and employability. This includes apprenticeships, internships, and job shadowing opportunities.
  • Adult Education: Adult learners and staff can engage in lifelong learning activities abroad, improving their skills and competencies. This can involve job shadowing, courses, or teaching assignments.
  • Youth Exchanges: These are short-term exchanges for young people to meet their peers from other countries, participate in joint activities, and learn about different cultures. These exchanges foster social inclusion and active citizenship.
  • Volunteering: The European Voluntary Service (EVS) allows young people to volunteer abroad for a period of 2-12 months. This is an opportunity to contribute to local communities, gain valuable experience, and develop personal and professional skills

Why on TravaPowa:  The acronym Erasmus stands for European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students, but over the years, it has come to signify much more. Just hearing the name evokes emotions, opportunities, a vision of the future, and the legendary stories of countless European students. In three decades, Erasmus has enabled 4.4 million students to study abroad. Including youth exchanges, vocational students, teachers, volunteers, and Erasmus Mundus staff, the total reaches 9.1 million, with an estimated 1 million children born to "Erasmians".

Cross-Cultural Exchange: Erasmus+ promotes cross-cultural understanding by pushing participants out of their comfort zones and into immersive experiences in other countries. It fosters greater awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures, breaking down barriers and building European solidarity.

Skills and Personal Growth: Whether through study, training, or volunteering, Erasmus+ helps participants develop both personally and professionally, enhancing employability and soft skills such as adaptability and teamwork.

Social and Environmental Action: Erasmus+ supports initiatives that address critical social and environmental challenges. Through mobility programs like Youth Exchanges, participants not only raise awareness but also take action on pressing issues, promoting positive change.

Impact Beyond Tourism: Erasmus+ redefines the purpose of travel by blending education, work, and cultural exchange. It’s about creating meaningful experiences that have a lasting impact on participants and the communities they engage with

Erasmus+ reflects the core values of the TravaPowa community, demonstrating that travel can be both enriching and purposeful. By encouraging international mobility and fostering personal growth, Erasmus+ promotes a vision of travel that goes far beyond simple tourism—it empowers people to make a positive difference in the world
